Montessori 6-12

Primary school children are particularly curious and eager to learn. They explore and investigate, use their imagination and creativity, are interested in moral issues, and love working with their friends on big projects. It is an exciting time in their lives, when attentive guidance from trusted adults is essential.

A course for teachers

The AMI Montessori 6-12 Diploma Course is suitable for people who are interested in Montessori education for children from birth to twelve years of age. In particular, (prospective) Montessori teachers

COURSE DURATION

1.5 years starting September 21, 2026

TIMETABLE

During the course weeks, attendance is compulsory from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and occasionally on Saturdays or in the evenings.

During the school weeks between the course sections, work shadowing and teaching internships must be scheduled.
Work shadowing:       90 hours, approx. 3 weeks
Teaching internships:        120 hours, approx. 5 weeks

COURSE LANGUAGE

The course will be held in German and translated into English

PRELIMINARY COURSE

The Preliminary Course, which is integrated into the program and mandatory for all participants who do not have an AMI Diploma 3-6, teaches the principles and provides an overview of the Montessori materials for 3- to 6-year-olds.
The Preliminary Course will take place in July and August 2026.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In order to work successfully as a Montessori teacher, a sufficient general education is required. The following are recognized as such:
* High school diploma
* Completed vocational training
* Successful completion of at least half of a teacher training program (first state exam) or a degree in education or psychology
* Another completed degree

In addition to vocational training and work certificates, letters of recommendation from three people who can assess the applicant’s professional abilities must also be submitted. The decision on admission to the course is made on the basis of the documents submitted and a detailed interview.

In order to be allowed to teach at a Montessori school after completing the course, state certification is usually required. Although this is not a prerequisite for admission to the course, it is recommended that you clarify whether it is necessary for your intended future field of work.

Our Training Center


Our trainer

Cordula Arana Teacher is a primary school teacher and AMI Director of Training for 6-12 year olds. She holds AMI diplomas for infants, children’s houses and primary school (BG; IT).

Ms. Arana has a bachelor’s degree in education and studied violoncello in Linz, Austria. Study courses in special and remedial education, sensory integration, Tomatis, Gordon communication training, and NLP have broadened her educational experience.

She has been living in Lucerne for 20 years, taught grades 4-6 at the Montessori School Lucerne, and was a member of the educational management team at the Insle Montessori School for several years.

She works internationally as a lecturer and examiner on various AMI courses, offers AMI orientation courses, and, since 2019, AMI diploma courses for 6-12-year-olds for MCH and in Estonia.
